I am very troubled today about the spiritual state of those in our Fundamental Baptist Churches. What the world and those in liberal movements do has always troubled me, but it is alarming what has crept into some of our Fundamental Churches. It seems that some of the most basic doctrines that we have held to for all these years are slipping away and losing their impact and importance. Things like the Local Church, eternal security, inerrancy of the Bible, the Lordship of Christ, the simple Bible plan of salvation, personal and ecclesiastical separation, and many other parts of the foundation of our faith have been cast aside and many are being attracted to a modern feel-good and politically correct religion. Our thinking has changed, our doctrine has changed, our worship has changed, our music has changed, and many have changed Bibles. That has caused so many other things to change. Many are now ashamed of their Old Time Religion roots and seeking something more contemporary. Those that were once solid, rock-rib Fundamentalists have forsaken that old path and are now on a dangerous road of compromise. I am not going there and by God’s grace, I will not allow Victory Baptist Church to go there! While many so-called Fundamentalists are dropping their standards, I am going to hold mine high and walk the road that has served me well for all these years. I realize that even a small breach in the strong spiritual walls we have built or a small crack in the foundation we have laid, will give the Devil a great opening to destroy all that we have. There is relentless pressure on this Preacher as well as most others I know to let up, let down, and let go of what has made us what we are. But when we forsake what we were and change what we are, we will change what we will be in the future. As difficult and unpopular as it might be, I have made up my mind that I am going to stand for this Old King James Bible and for the One that gave it to me. Sure I get weary of the conflict and wish it were not such a hard battle, but as the flesh gets weary, the Bible says that the spiritual man is renewed day by day. It is easy to look around at the mega-churches and desire some of what they have. But we have a Bible and the Holy Ghost to tell us that our faith is not to be measured by material possessions or financial resources, it is to be measured by our moral, Biblical, and spiritual assets. The poor back-woods Preacher and the small country Church that stands on the truths of God and relies on His mighty hand are much more valuable that all the money in all the banks in the world. Long before you or I arrived, some great old landmarks were set up for us. To neglect and tear them down would be ungrateful and sinful. It would also be foolish because it would damage our inheritance.
That’s why I still say: GIVE ME THAT OLD TIME RELIGION!
So Glad To Be So Saved,
Preacher Psalm 68:19 |
